Hello, my name is Mel and I am an Executive Consultant at DB Results’ Melbourne office.
My primary expertise lies in Project Management, where I excel in setting up and delivering a project from the ground up, leading specific streams such as Release and Cutover, and providing guidance on Governance matters. I apply my knowledge in risk management, assurance, and project controls. Additionally, my background in law provides valuable insights into commercial and contract management.
I am currently overseeing a comprehensive project that involves managing environment setups, coordinating releases, and handling complex cutovers. My role includes integrating releases into both non-production and production environments, developing detailed cutover plans, and addressing priority issues with the support of a skilled team.
In addition to this, I am deeply involved in establishing a Program of work, which involves managing multiple workstreams and navigating new challenges. This makes my role both dynamic and rewarding.
My career at DB Results began to take shape during my time on MLC’s major Transition & Transformation project. I started as a Delivery Integrity Manager, ensuring the Program adhered to controls and methodologies, and eventually progressed to Project Manager, overseeing multiple recovery projects. These experiences taught me a great deal about my own capabilities and significantly influenced my career trajectory.
I haven’t always worked in my current field. From a young age, I wanted to be a lawyer, which led me to complete a Law degree and work in-house. I later transitioned into a Legal, Risk, & Compliance role, where I started questioning if law was right for me. I then moved into risk management as a Risk & Assurance Business Partner at a utilities company, where I met Matt Nidd, DB Results Chief Delivery Officer. After my role became redundant, I reached out to him, which led to a position at DB Results. I started as a Senior Consultant in PMO and governance, moved into Project Management, and now serve as a Senior People Leader and Executive Consultant, doing what I love—delivery!
Outside of DB Results, my life revolves around driving my son to sporting events and enjoying time with friends and family. I love dining out and occasionally hit the dance floor with friends, only to joke about our sore feet afterward! My ideal Sunday starts with an energising DanceFit workout, followed by a sunny day at the beach with my family, enjoying activities like jet skiing and snorkelling. My husband and I, once thrill-seekers with adventures like bungy jumping and sky diving, now prefer warm beach destinations with our son. We’re passionate soccer fans who face the occasional household debate over whether to support Australia, Italy, or Argentina in World Cup finals, but we all agree that Liverpool is the best team in the English Premier League.
My greatest personal achievement is overcoming the challenge of my son’s illness. When he was three years old, he was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, he now lives a healthy life. The strength and resilience I drew upon during that time were not fully apparent to me until years later, when I could reflect on the courage it took to face my fears and hold our family together. This experience not only strengthened our family but also changed my perspective on handling life’s challenges. It taught me to approach situations with a more focused mindset, distinguishing between what to worry about and what to let go, what to challenge and what to accept, and when to be cautious versus when to act decisively. Above all, this journey has reinforced that while many things in life are important, being a mother and a wife remains my top priority.
