We know there’s one thing that really sets us apart: our people. In this series, we take you behind the scenes with people from all over DB Results and show you what really makes us tick.

Hello, my name is Jack Johnson, and I’m a consultant here at DB Results’ Melbourne office.

I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles, including as a Business Analyst, Cutover Analyst, Project Coordinator, and PMO Lead. Each of these roles has given me a broad understanding of project delivery and governance, which has shaped my approach to supporting complex projects.

A typical day sees me focused on keeping all aspects of project delivery running smoothly across a series of programs. That includes coordinating governance activities, managing risks, maintaining oversight of key controls, and supporting teams to stay on track. I work closely with stakeholders to resolve issues early and ensure alignment across multiple workstreams, keeping momentum and clarity across the project.

Before transitioning into consulting, I worked in a variety of roles in different industries around the world. I’ve worked on a sugar cane train in Queensland, on construction crews building the Winter Olympic Athletes’ Village, and in beachside bars in Mexico. I’ve also led the opening of multiple hospitality venues, including one of Australia’s most iconic hotels. In many of these roles, I was responsible for managing teams, including groups of up to 50 people, often in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. These experiences shaped my ability to adapt quickly, lead under pressure, and thrive in dynamic, people-driven settings, all of which continue to inform how I approach project delivery today.

What I’ve found is that good management looks remarkably similar across industries. Whether you’re running a venue, leading a construction crew, or driving a tech project, it always comes down to people. Clear communication, mutual trust, accountability, and shared goals are what move things forward.

As the Program Management Office Lead for one of our customers, I’m a key point of contact for teams looking for information or support. People come to me as a go-to for guidance and a reliable source of information. We play a critical role in supporting projects especially those facing challenges, with a focus on enhancing our customers delivery capability and setting them up for success. By drawing on our collective delivery experience alongside DB Results’ methodologies, tools and best practices, I provide practical advice on governance, risk management, and project controls to help projects stay on track and meet expectations.

One of the standout moments at DB Results was completing the Relay Day 2 program of work in the cutover control room. Months of planning and rehearsing culminated in a single weekend of intense 24hr activity, where every step had to land exactly as intended. Seeing it all come together successfully was a major achievement for the whole team. The experience tested our preparation, teamwork, and decision-making under pressure, and proved just how critical strong leadership and clear communication are when the stakes are high.

The most rewarding part of my role is solving complex problems alongside highly experienced and capable people. Being part of a team that can cut through ambiguity, make tough calls, and deliver real outcomes is what makes the work genuinely satisfying. There are challenges in keeping stakeholders aligned throughout this process, especially when priorities shift, timelines tighten, or expectations evolve along the way. However, navigating those complexities is also where the most growth happens.

Outside of work, I enjoy getting out of the city and reconnecting with nature. Having lived out of the city for many years, I still love camping and visiting friends and family in the countryside whenever I can, a weekend outdoors is one of my favourite ways to recharge. When I’m in Melbourne, I make the most of the city’s hospitality, or enjoy hosting at home, using my own hospitality background to cook and bring people together over a good meal.
