Leading Australian law firm Maurice Blackburn has produced a new online platform for intuitive building and self-servicing of wills. The application, called MyLife Wills, was built using OutSystems, the world’s leading visual application development platform, and took just six weeks to bring to life.
The project team combined Maurice Blackburn's legal expertise with DB Results' design thinking and digital enablement experience. The collaboration delivered a solution design that met the business need with a primary focus on user experience, distilling business opportunities and challenges into a customer-focused and engaging solution.
MyLife Wills responds to a market need for affordable and widely available online resources for making and managing legal documentation. The platform provides a public-facing web browser for clients, an internal administration portal and a tool to manage business rules, as well as complete integration with Maurice Blackburn’s core systems and workflow.
On the creation of a hybrid online/personal model for creating a Will, Geoff Donohue, General Manager of Personal Legal Services at Maurice Blackburn, said:
“MyLife Wills is a best-of-breed online Wills platform that wonderfully integrates the benefits of expert legal staff input with the many benefits a digital engagement platform can offer clients. The OutSystems platform’s rapid development capability and ability to customise to a very specific client-facing proposition as determined by our firm is terrific. The result is a custom digital and technology solution offering a great client experience and mirrored by internal workflow efficiencies. We’re excited with what we have co-created today and what it can become as we grow.”
Clients can input their details to the application from anywhere, in their own time, then a legal representative from Maurice Blackburn will assess the information and contact the individual to finalise their will. This hybrid model streamlines workflows and processes at the legal firm, as well as providing a convenient front-end for clients. With less manual processing of information, legal professionals have more time to focus on higher level work and client satisfaction.
The OutSystems platform allows for fast and easy upgrades and changes to be made to the solution at any time. A round of optimisation and new services are planned for the near future.
Paul Arthur, Regional VP for ANZ at OutSystems, stated, “this project demonstrates how dynamic organisations can utilise speed and agility to react to market forces. The OutSystems platform allows them to bring new services online as and when they see an opportunity. Working with DB Results, we empower people to transform their systems and services and this is a great example of an organisation bringing their vision to life.”
Gavin Bunshaw, Co-Chief Executive Officer at DB Results, said, “we are delighted with the outcome and are looking forward to continuing our shared value partnership with Maurice Blackburn, supporting their digital roadmap vision.”
