DB Results expands into Queensland, strengthening commitment to local communities and digital innovation

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of DB Results into Queensland, reflecting our continued commitment to supporting the region’s digital transformation.

Our work with First Nations communities demonstrates our commitment to drive Indigenous participation in the state’s innovation economy. This expansion underscores our focus on fostering economic growth and delivering sustainable, on-country employment opportunities for Indigenous communities.

The First Nations Digital Service Centre

Duncan Kerslake, Program Manager for the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation, developed the concept for the First Nations Digital Service Centre, driven by his commitment to leveraging technology for community empowerment. In 2022, Duncan collaborated with Chris McLaren, Chief Customer and Digital Officer for the Queensland Government, to launch and scale the program, beginning in the Indigenous community of Cherbourg and later expanding to Palm Island.

Key partners in the program include DB Results, Fujitsu, Telstra, Smart Services Queensland, and the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Siehanna Mickelo, a member of the Cherbourg Digital Service Centre, became the first employee to step into a software testing role. Siehanna has since successfully led the onboarding of additional team members to further advance the initiative.

In 2025, the program will extend to the Yarrabah community, with DB Results as the foundation partner.

The First Nations Digital Service Centre is a part of the Queensland Government’s strategy to empower Indigenous and disadvantaged Queenslanders by providing them with the tools and networks needed to drive participation in the innovation economy.

The strategy focuses on building relationships with Indigenous communities and respecting their cultural heritage while remaining on country. It aims to increase Indigenous representation in key sectors such as agriculture, energy, and government services. Additionally, it helps Indigenous entrepreneurs access funding, mentorship, and skill-building resources to promote sustainable economic independence​.

This expanded presence enables us to take on more projects, creating jobs and driving economic development. A key focus of this initiative is connecting First Nations communities with digital employment opportunities, ensuring they benefit from our efforts while strengthening the state’s broader workforce.
