We know there's one thing that really sets us apart: our people. In this series, we take you behind the scenes with people from all over DB Results and show you what really makes us tick.
Hello, my name is Lisa, and I'm thrilled to share a glimpse into my life as a Senior Consultant and Business Analyst at DB Results’ Sydney office.
My role is multifaceted, focusing on digital projects and embracing various project management methodologies like Agile, Waterfall and hybrids. Currently, I'm leading the charge on a large strategic project as the Lead Business Analyst, a role that keeps me on my toes every day.
My average day is quite dynamic, filled with a lot of interaction and coordination. I'm constantly juggling emails and Teams messages, engaging with a wide array of stakeholders. These include business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), fellow BAs, developers, architects, the UX/UI team, and our project manager/DTL. Meetings play a pivotal role in my day as I collaborate with my team and stakeholders to keep the project on track.
My daily tasks include managing user stories with precision, backlog grooming, and making the most of my team's strengths when task assignments are required. I kickstart my day early to clear my inbox, reserving the last few hours for focused user story writing.
While I initially started my career as a developer, I'm not overly technical. However, where I truly shine is in tackling complex business and process problems. I have a knack for breaking down these issues, conducting thorough analyses, and crafting well-defined, effective solutions. My approach is highly process-oriented, and I have a deep appreciation for effective methodologies. This is what makes me a go-to person when people need advice on problem-solving.
One of my most cherished career moments at DB Results is my pivotal role in nurturing the growth of our Sydney office. When I first joined, we were a small team of just 7 individuals. Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated team, we've grown to a group of over 40 professionals. Beyond the numbers, I take immense pride in contributing to the development of a unique and closely connected culture amongst exceptional professionals.
It's interesting to note that my very first job was quite different to where I find myself today. I started as a personal trainer and aerobics instructor, an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. However, the early hours and physical demands eventually led me to transition into my current field, where I've thrived and continue to make a significant impact.
I have a few hidden talents up my sleeve. One of them is a keen eye for folding sheets and making beds immaculately. I have a deep appreciation for creating beautifully dressed beds. Additionally, I'm skilled in crafting delectable cocktails. But my greatest personal achievement? Living life on my own terms and understanding that I can achieve my desires through my own efforts.
Despite occasional IT work spilling into weekends, I prioritise downtime for recharging. As an introverted homebody, tending to my house and garden is my sanctuary for recharging social batteries. I enjoy hosting friends for dinner and exploring Sydney's vibrant culinary scene, along with my passion for hiking along the stunning coastlines of Sydney and New South Wales, where the thrill of spotting whales and pods of dolphins never gets old.
Lastly, sailing has become my latest hobby, a rediscovered passion that I'm diligently pursuing. I'm taking lessons to earn my Competent Crew qualification, with dreams of joining the picturesque boats that grace Sydney Harbour.
