Supporting the successful rollout and statewide scale up of GenV

How we helped The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute deliver a new operating model.

Background

The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) is the largest child health research institute in Australia and one of the top three worldwide for research quality and impact, with more than 1200 researchers dedicated to making discoveries to prevent and treat childhood conditions. Their research is guided by the issues their patients experience. Therefore, when they make a discovery, they promptly turn it into practical treatments for children in the hospital.

The Challenge

MCRI’s project, Generation Victoria (GenV), is the largest children’s research project ever undertaken in Australia and is truly ground-breaking. By taking limited data from children and their parents across Victoria on an opt-in basis at discrete milestones in a child’s life, it aims to better understand and ultimately resolve complex issues that impact on the development of children, their health and wellness, and the associated data that may indicate potential methods or treatments to improve their outcomes.

Given our experience in managing and executing complex programs, DB Results were asked to support the delivery of a working Target Operating Model (TOM) and Advisory Services in Business and Data Architecture of the program. These services were provided to support the successful initial release of the program (Vanguard 1), while also ensuring the business services and capability statements would align to the tactical and strategical objectives of the program.

To support the strategic business and technical advisory services provided, DB Results also provided business analysis services, data governance advisory, technical solution architecture services, establishment of a Hypercare Support Model and development of a high-level services catalogue to ensure that the platforms would deliver the requirements that were required by, and in part defined by, different areas of the program.

The Solution

GenV has utilised an agile approach to deliver their technology capability for the program. To provide maximum value to the project, our DB Results resources have been embedded into their framework. By drawing upon previous experiences following this framework, our resources have been able to advise and provide guidance to enable growth and streamlining of processes within GenV.

To build a deep and comprehensive understanding of what was required to support GenV and effectively understand how we could provide support, our resources conducted interviews with key MCRI executive stakeholders across the program to understand their vision and the objectives to sustain the study.

So that the required infrastructure could be built to support the roll out of GenV across Victoria, our team ran collaborative workshops between subject matter experts from the business, and technology resources. These workshops enabled us to elicit requirements and identify any gaps between infrastructure and business needs that were required to be closed.

The Results

The holistic approach that we utilised when looking at the needs of the business and the technology landscape was supplemented by our experience and knowledge that we’ve accumulated through our previous work in the health industry. This enabled the development of a comprehensive roadmap detailing the implementation of the identified business capabilities for the program.
