It has been eight months since I started with DB Results as an Associate Consultant after completing my Economics and Finance degree, and the experiences I have had over such a short period of time have been incredible.
Walking through the door for the first time as a fresh-faced consultant, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The initial two-week induction program allowed me to develop an understanding of both the work that I would be involved in and what it meant to be a part of DB Results.
For the next four months, I was on the bench, where we work on a range of internal tasks between being allocated to customer assignments. Being on the bench gave me exposure to a wide range of people within the business, and I was able to take on a variety of work that allowed me to broaden my skillset. One of the highlights of my stint on the bench was having the opportunity to manage the bench and coordinate tasks, this allowed me to develop an understanding of how to prioritise work and effectively allocate resources.
My first billable experience came on an internal project, where I was a business analyst on the team delivering MiOK, an app focused on health and wellbeing. Being on an internal project, I was able to take on a more senior role which included being trusted with speaking directly to the Product Owner, conducting showcases and other ceremonies. Having this opportunity to be thrown into the deep end and have these experiences fast-tracked my skills and helped build my confidence.
This project acted as a stepping-stone for me, and since then, working in the digital area has meant billable opportunities have come thick and fast. The projects I have been involved with have included delivering a web application for a law firm and supporting a health research program which will make a tangible difference to the community. I was initially drawn to the world of consulting for the opportunity to work on projects that set out to help the community and make a long-lasting positive impact, and having the opportunity to do this at a company that places so much focus on its people is what takes working at DB Results over the top.
Starting my career in 2020 has been a strange experience, however when it did come time to transition into a remote working environment, it was very easy due to the support I received from both the business and my colleagues. Other than the response to the unique challenges of this year, there is so much more which makes DB Results such a special organisation to be a part of, including the challenges I have been thrown and the feeling of having such an emphasis placed on my development. The strong social aspects include the (currently virtual) monthly drinks, the people I have had the opportunity to form connections with and the fact that I’m able to easily interact with the Executive Management team.
The hours we put in and the work we deliver are truly appreciated, and this means I have felt like a part of the team since that first day walking into the office at the start of February. Looking back, it is unbelievable to reflect on how much I have learnt and the skills I have acquired. I am really excited about my future career, and the contributions I will make to both DB Results and the community.
